on my iPhone 6 get message sometimes: Safari cannot open website URL cannot be shown"

on my iMac Safari does open the site.; What's up with Safari?

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), airport extreme, iPadAir,iPhone6

The iPhone version of Safari is the Mobile version which is not as robust. You could try using the desktop version for a particular site by following the steps here:

http://www.imore.com/how-request-desktop-version-website-your-iphone-or-ipad


Basically:

Visit the site in Safari.

Tap and hold the Refresh button in the URL bar.

Tap Request Desktop Site at bottom.
