Q: Ethernet adapter not working...

Hello! This issue has been around on and off. The ethernet adapter sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. And now, the wired connection is completely gone. I have a macbook pro retina from mid-2015 and I've researched online but there doesn't seem to be a solution. I used to nudge my cord around and it would start working again but now the adapter device is completely dead. Does anyone know a solution to this? Thank you!

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

Some Users are surprised to discover just how much force is required to make a good connection. Push on the cable at the ThunderBolt port until essentially ALL of the metal plug-end of the cable disappears inside the jack.

Super simple test: boot into recovery, disable wifi, open a terminal window and try to ping google.com or 4.2.2.1.

If it works then your adapter is fine and the problem is elsewhere. I was too lazy after 20 minutes of looking around I reinstalled OSX then restored stuff from backups and the problem didn't come back (yet?).
