OS X EC can't open Audacity 2.1.2

I know this question has been covered before in previous versions, but no matter what I do, I do not get a dialogue box that gives me the option to open this app. I have tried opening the app through Finder and using the Control button to open the app (as suggested in previous postings), but, regardless, the dialogue box simply states, "This app can't be opened" and then "ok." Would really appreciate any insight. Or even validation at this point. Thank you!

Thanks so much for your help, D. I followed your instructions (I was not aware of that function in Finder); however, there was no Audacity folder to delete. And, I've tried downloading the software from both Macupdate, and the audacityteam website. I will restart my computer later tonight and see if tomorrow is friendlier to the process. I really do appreciate your input!!

I was able to partially solve this problem by doing the following.

1. Go to Applications/Audacity

2. Control-click and choose "Show Package Contents"

3. Navigate to Contents/MacOS

4. Double-click on the Audacity script file

5. You'll get a warning saying that Audacity is a Unix file downloaded from an unidentified source, do you want to open?

6. Click Yes.

7. From that point on you can open Audacity by double-clicking on the script file, however I was not able to get it to open from the Audacity.app file.

8. You can create an alias and put it on your desktop to help a bit.
