Move ring on Apple Watch is not working

Has anyone had an issue with the move ring (the red one) not updating? I normally use my Apple Watch at the gym and track my cardio workouts with it. Usually after 45 minutes of cardio, whether it be running, stationary bike, or an elliptical machine, the move ring will have tracked anywhere from 450-700 calories depending on the intensity of the workout. For the last two days the excercise ring has worked fine but the move ring has only tracked 100 calories for the day. In addition it hasn't tracked any additional movement that it usually tracks during the day.

At this point I have unpaired my watch from my phone, prompting an automatic backup to the phone, and then re paired it to my phone and restored it to what it was. I have also recalibrated the watch under the location service > motion calibration & distance setting. My iphone and watch are currently at the most recent versions (9.3.2 and 2.2.1). I updated my watch OS a week ago and the mov tracking continued to work for 5 days so I don't beleive the watch OS to be the issue. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Apple Watch, iOS 9.3.2, Watch OS 2.2.1

I think you can rule that out.

It may also then help to reset your calibration data and to re-calibrate your watch. Note that the associated steps are different to those that you describe having followed.

Calibration improves the accuracy of various health and activity-related estimations including Move, calorie, distance and Exercise estimations in the Activity app.

To reset your data:

  • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Privacy > Motion & Fitness > tap once on Reset Calibration Data.

To calibrate again, follow the instructions in the support article below, including:

  • Record Outdoor Walk and/or Outdoor Run workouts using the Workout app on your watch.
  • Do this for at least 20 minutes at each of the speeds at which you normally walk or run.
  • Whilst doing so, take your iPhone with you, with Location Services turned on.
  • Allow your arm to swing naturally during the workout.
