Q: iTunes songs show uploaded not matched.

I made digital copies of my vinyl albums. These albums are also on the iTunes store, but in my library it shows uploaded and not matched.

It would be great if I could get these to say matched, I could then download the songs without the all too familiar "pops and clicks"

Anyone know a fix for this?

    Hi,

Itunes match uses sound footprint of the tracks to get a match. As there will be rumble, surface noise, pops and clicks, it is unlikely to find a match. Even if you have software such as Audacity Or click repair for cleaning up vinyl, the chances of getting a match are slim.

I Find it interesting that Soundhound and Shazam can find them and iTunes can't.

I read somewhere that Match maybe uses metadata (rather than acoustic fingerprinting), to "match". Unless you added the metadata (that Match would recognize), to that ripped file, presumably that/those file(s) wouldn't be able to match. As such, that file would only upload as-is, and it is that original version that would be made available to your devices.

iTunes match does not use metadata when matching. Maybe you read an article about Apple Music - see http://www.mcelhearn.com/apple-music-matches-files-with-metadata-only-not-acoust ic-fingerprinting/

You know, I think that was the article I read. Got Match and Music turned around.Thanks.

That being the case, you'd think they could accommodate the clicks, pop, hiss, etc. via some hysteresis algorithm, just as Shazam (and others), do. Or, perhaps they simply don't want to match when the original came from vinyl for some reason.

    Hi,

Does Shazam allow you to upgrade your tracks? There are a number of apps such as Picard musicbrainz that can identify track information from sound profile And metadata.

Amazon and Google play off similar type of matching as iTunes Match but most of my ripped LPs were not matched. I achieved success for a small number but I used a high quality deck with usb connection to rip the LP then used apps to remove surface noise an pops and clicks.

itunes Match will not match digital rips that have faults. There are many instances where tracks available in iTunes are not matched, a common reason is an original CD doesn't match with a remastered version.

Shazam does not. At least I have not found a way yet.
