Cables charge differently

I have 2 charging cables each for my 5s, a 1m and a 3m. They are both 3rd party cables. The problem is with the 3m, it would charge slower than the 1m with apple adapter (1% in <5min compared to 1% in >1min). The 3m cables are identical, but bought in different places. They are also almost identical to one of my 1m cable and also to the apple charger except length and width where the 1m is thicker than the 3m.

Hi Bob

Apple recommends using only genuine Apple Lightning to USB cables or third-party cables that Apple has certified under the MFi program.

Using counterfeit or uncertified third-party issues can cause issues including:

  • Your iPhone may not charge properly (this may explain the charging issue that you described).
  • Your iPhone may not sync properly.
  • Your iPhone could become damaged.
  • The cable may become more easily damaged.

Genuine Apple Lightning to USB cables have certain text and a serial number printed on them.

Certified cables come with the "Made for iPod/iPhone/iPad" logo on their packaging.

Apple also recommends using genuine USB power adapters from Apple.
