Griffin iMic not found in System

Hi, I have an older Griffin iMic which worked well in 9.2 and 10.2 - now that I'm to 10.4.8, I cannot get the iMic to show up in either 10.3.9 or 10.4.8. (have both loaded on seperate hard drives). I've even tried moving the users preferences onto the desktop & rebooted, but no luck. Any idea why this isn't appearing in the Sound folder?
If I hook up a Griffin Powerwave, it appears instantly, but franky the recorded sound quality isn't very good - the iMic has always sounded better...
