Q: Why don't I see my whole iCloud photos library on my MAC?

I have a quite big library but I can't see the latest photos shot with my iPhone on the Photos app of the Mac.

It doesn't seem to sync up and it's month that it doesn't.

If I go to the iCloud site I can see these but never in the MAC program

MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015), OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

What have you tried to restart the syncing?

Is the iCloud Photo Library enabled on your Mac? are you using  "Optimize Storage" with iCloud Photo Library or not?  IDo you have enogh free storage on your Mac to be able to download all photos?

Your Mac may not be able to upload some photos or videos to iCloud and not be downloading the new photos until the the upload has finished.  Is there still a progress bar in in the Photos > Preferences > iCloud?

Check with a smart album, if there are items that cannot upload.  "File > New Smart album", ten add a rule "Photo is unable to upload to iCloud Photo Library."  Remove all items that cannot upload from your library. Save them to a folder outside the library or a different Photos Library.

Then wait for the syncing to resume.

If this does not help, repair your Photos Library.  That will however upload your complete Photos library again to match it against iCloud.

    From the Photos Help:  https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/pht6be18f93

If you experience problems with photos in a library, Photos can try to repair it. If problems persist, you can also restore your library from a Time Machine backup.

Important: You should back up your photo library before repairing your library.

    • If Photos is open, choose Photos > Quit Photos.
    • Press Option-Command and double-click the Photos icon in the Applications folder (or click the Photos icon in the Dock). The Repair Library window opens.
    • Click Repair to rebuild your photo library.

    Hello thanks for the reply.

I am using the other options on my mac, the one which says to download the hd files on the mac.

regarding the upload it finally seemed to have finished yesterday but today it started again with 12427 items to upload, while my MAC library seem to be of 11973 elements. I don't know it has started again an uploading or not but there is still a progress bar in preferences.

I have enough space in my iCloud (200gb) and it doesn't seem that I have elements unable of being uploaded.

So do you suggest to wait another time this upload and then see if it will download the new photos or it is a better idea to try the repair library thing now?

Another question may be how I can be sure that my library is syncing while I am not using my pc? Does it sync while the Mac is in stand-by/stop?

The syncing will continue while you are logged into your user account, and connected to Wi-Fi and the Mac is charged or connected to power.

As to syncing while sleeping - does your Mac support Power Nap?  At least My Photo Stream will sync while the Mac is sleeping (How Power Nap works on your Mac - Apple Support

i would wait with repairing, if the Mac is now uploading.

today it started again with 12427 items to upload

Usually this only occurs if you do something to cause the upload - some of the things that cause a new upload  are repairing the library, moving the library, turning ICPL off and back on, changing system libraries, etc - as to doing the upload it continues in the background as long as teh comuter is awake and has internet - it does not continue while the computer is asleep
