Q: How to send e-mail from hotmail on Mail app

I`m having trouble sending e-mails from hotmail through Mail app on the iPhone 6. I`m unable to send any e-mail. It`s ok to receive e-mails, but not to send.

I`ve checked my hotmail account on the web and it`s everything working well. The problem is just to send through the app.

Does anyone has been having the same problem?

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.2

Try resetting your Mail Account. First close your Mail App completely from the app switcher window by double clicking the Home button and swiping up the Mail preview pane up until it disappears from the screen. Then go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > locate your email provider and click on the account and swipe to Delete. Then do a forced restart. Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears. Then go back to Settings > Mail… and add the account again.

Thanks for the answer, but I`ve tried and it still not working. The message I receive when trying to send e-mails is something like this "Cannot send e-mail. The username or password are incorrect". But I`m receiving e-mails properly, so I don`t think the password is the problem.

Do you think of any other possibility?

    Thanks again for your help!

You may want to review your SMTP settings in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > youremailaccount

    Outgoing (SMTP) Server

    • Server address: smtp-mail.outlook.com
    • Port: 25 (or 587 if 25 is blocked)
    • Authentication: Yes
    • Encrypted Connection: TLS

    According to Microsoft help: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows/outlook/send-receive-from-app

The error that you are receiving means there is a problem with the SMTP server, the part of mail that is responsible for sending mail. It is possible for you to be able to receive mail by not send it and vice versa. There are two different servers involved and each has its own setting. You need to check on the settings for Hotmail and check your SMTP server settings to ensure they are correct.

If the account is working well through a browser and the Mail reset (including the forced restart) did not help, then the Mail app or system is likely corrupted and about all you can do is a system restore.

System Restore. First backup your device using iTunes. Also import your photos to your computer and copy all important data. Try restoring from backup first and testing it. If it does not help, you may have to restore as New and reconfigure from scratch as the backup could be corrupted. For this reason it is important to have your photos and data saved separately from the backup. Here are the steps for a Restore:

Please note that setting up an IMAP Hotmail or Outlook account should be automatic. The settings should be configured properly if you follow the process here: Add an email account to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Thanks very much. In the end the problem was really on the SMTP server, but the password was wrong.
