I have a SONY FS5 camera and am trying to import XAVCHD files to FCPX. Computer crashes when I click on the folder.
Any insight?

I'm using FCP X 10.2.3
CComputer specs? Maybe a problem with the card. I'm assuming it's a card. Maybe a screenshot of the import window before you select the folder.
TRash your preferences.

I had already uploaded all the video files to the harddrive (an external 12tb drive).
was trying import to a new library/project.
no problem in the past when importing AVCHD files.
but it doesn't like the XAVCHD format
Just trashed all the preferences, created a new library, and tried again.
crash...
TTry making a new test user. If it still happens I'd suggest taking the system to a service technician.

It actually worked when logged in as a different use
When I went back to my own login and test again, it again crashed.
So, If I want to edit, I have to create a new user on my computer for FS5/FCPX it appears.
YYou have a software conflict in your main user. It may effect the whole app or whole the import process with this media. If you import to a library on an external drive with external media that has open read/write permissions, you should import in the new user and see if the library and media work on the main user.

I have a been off the grid the last week. I don't think I've ever imported a "new user" to FCPX.
