Q: OK So I have connected my iPhone 5s to my Macbook Pro with a USB cable but System settings says it is NOT CONNECTED even though it triggers iTunes to open. Not getting an internet connection on the MAC How come system settings shows USB not connected

I have connected my iPhone to my Mac using a USB cable, but the Mac shows USB not connected, even though iTunes opens

The Mac has no network for the internet using USB, WHY NOT?

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.3.1

Where in system settings are you looking? And what are you trying to do with the phone connected? Transfer files? Share internet connectivity?

When I connect to the Mac iTunes opens and wants to sync, so I know it recogizes the phone has been connected. Yet when I got to system preferences on the mac NETWORK it shows iPhone USB - not connected -

It does show properly with another iPhone or an iPad.

I want to tether my Mac using USB to the internet!

On the iPhone - start the hotspot by toggling it on

Then use the Bluetooth icon on the Mac to connect to your phone network

Your connectivity should be up and running

As I said iTunes does open and see's the iPhone5s, and the Mac can be tethered to my iPhone5c or either one of my iPads!

iTunes SEEs the iPhone5s BUT the Mac still shows it is NOT CONNECTED, ODD in the least right?

Yes, I realize I can use Bluetooth or even WiFi to connect the Mac. What I don't understand is WHY the Mac see's the iPhone enough to open iTunes but still displays NOT CONNECTED for USB! I know this sounds ODD, but it works for iPhone5c Both iPads but NOT the iPhone5s and I do know HOW to turn on the Hotspot- THANK YOU

So do you understand the question NOW?

WHY does the MAC see the phone, open iTunes yet display USB NOT CONNECTED and not connect to the phone's HOTSPOT?

I understood the question just fine

I am asking what is your issue with it other than a connection depiction - is there any functionality you are missing?

Thank you for your message. I am trying to be nice but the questions and the information was already detailed in my original posts. If there is no one that has an actual solution then why should I answer questions that I have already detailed?

I bought my first Macintosh computer in 1984, In 1985 I became a Value-Added Reseller for Apple and was a Certified Developer too. I have spent over 35 yrs as a computer technician - self employed.

I did not ask How do I turn on a Hotspot on my iPhone? I asked how is it that the Mac see's it and opens iTunes yet it doesn't see it is even connected by USB in Network settings. If the people on this forum don't have an answer; don't waste my time! I'm not rude. People who ask questions that have already been answered are the rude ones.

Thanks for your concern but clearly you don't know why either!

And apparently no one else on this forum has a clue either.
