Apps download to new page

Does anyone know why newly-downloaded apps automatically load on the next page? I have space for four apps/folders on page 1, and despite that any downloaded app appears on page 2 and I'll have to move it to page 1.

I'm using an iPhone 5s, iOS 9.3.2 and all the others before it.

App Store, along with everything else, is on page 1, the only page I have besides the search page to the left. I'm one of those everything-goes-in-a-folder users and prefer to have just the one page.

In all reality, it's not the end of the world to move a downloaded app from page 2 into a folder on page 1. It would just be nice to not have to do that.

The apps will always fill in consecutively from top to bottom left to right.

If this is not to case, and you have open slots on page 1, and it downloads to position 1 on page 2, then you have a bug.

The solution would likely be as simple as backup/restore using iTunes, but is probably not worth the time and effort for this issue.

Please let us know if you are experiencing other bugs/issues with the phone.

If you'd like to continue troubleshooting, I'd be happy to post some articles for you.

Not exactly. For example, despite the fact that I have open slots on the first page, when I just downloaded Airport Utility, an Apple app, it downloaded to the first available slot on a later page. But yes, slots on the first page will not get automatically filled.

You download this application from the app store. The first home screen is reserved for native application for the iPhone.… No question about it.!

I apologize that I use language you did not understand by saying first party apps.

That is an interesting hypothesis. Where did you get this information from, as I have never seen that in the past. I would be curious to see that stated. I have seen applications load to any number of pages in the past, not any one in particular.

Experience this hasn't changed since the iPhone. There was a glitch in iOS 8 that allowed you to make a blank home screen. That doesn't really count.

No, I have lots of other apps on the first screen of my phone. In fact, most of them are not native to the iPhone. The first screen is not "reserved" for anything. However, if you leave blank slots, they will not be automatically filed with downloads.

So I'm guessing from this response that you do not have a source that states this, just what seems to be your experience? I'm guessing from the first statement this means the original iPhone? I've not witnessed that behavior, and I've had iPhones since the original myself.
