May 27, 2016 7:55 PM in response to Evan L. D.by macjack,Please download and run EtreCheck, created by one of own helpers here in ASC. It is a diagnostic tool that's very useful to us in finding problems. Also it will give us further specs on your Mac. After it runs post the log file here. It will contain no personal information

May 27, 2016 10:13 PM in response to Evan L. D.by sberman,Your profile indicates you were running Lion (OS X 10.7), which was introduced in 2011. So you have skipped many years of upgrades and updates of Apple software.
One of the changes you skipped occurred last year, when Apple introduced the Photos app into OS X 10.10.3 (Yosemite), offered a transition from the iPhoto library to Photos, and discontinued iPhoto updates. More information:

In the future, I recommend performing updates / upgrades regularly, making each one a lot less dramatic than a once-in-(four or) five-year change.

May 28, 2016 11:50 AM in response to sbermanby Evan L. D.,Thanks Sberman. So how do I convert the iPhoto album to the photos album now that I have passed that upgrade to OS X El Capitan?

May 28, 2016 12:58 PM in response to Evan L. D.by sberman,Well, again, life is very difficult because you did not simply update / upgrade as you went along.
Transitioning from iPhoto to Photos requires you to have used the latest iPhoto (9.6.1) that was released before Photos was introduced.

Is Photos not working? It should have imported your iPhoto Library.
