imovie not showing itunes in music and sound effects bar

When I click on the music & sound effects bar in imovie, itunes does not appear.

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

Which version of iMovie and iTunes are you using?

You may need to enable the iTunes Preferences > Advanced > Share iTunes Library XML with other applications, then restart both iTunes and iMovie.

Is your iTunes Music only in the cloud? The songs need to stated locally to be visible in other applications. Download the songs from iCloud, that you want to use in the Music browser.

Protected songs and your AppleMusic songs will not show in the Music browser.

Hi Leone,

That box was already checked; have re-done and restarted both but no result. The Macbook is El Capitan 10.11.5; iMovie "09 v8.0.6 (821).

Hi Leone, second point - I don't use Cloud; everything is on my hard drive. There are no protected songs in my Itunes library, but the iTunes doesn't show up in the music list as on the screen shot. Bob.

Then your older iMovie version is the problem. I cannot get iTunes to show in the newer iMovie '11, version 9.0.9 either.

The iTunes Library does only show in iMovie 10.1.2 for me.

Thanks Leone; I thought that might be the problem. The difficulty is that it's almost impossible to get an appointment at our local Apple genius bar - Apple appears to becoming more and more difficult to get an answer from. Best regards, Bob.
