Q: Apple watch setup crashes!

iPhone 6, running 9.3.2

Apple watch 42mm Sport, running 2.2.1

- - - - -

I had to restore my phone as new. Now, when I try to pair the watch to the phone, when I reach the step that I am supposed to set up "Activity", the setup app on the iPhone crashes, which leaves the watch in a state that it's not ready to use and I have to restart the whole pairing process.

I tried it 5 times already, and it keeps crashing when I get to the same step: Set up Activity.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I tried different WiFi networks at my place, I turned off even single device in my house so that there may not be any interference, and of course the watch and the iPhone were next to each other and not far away.

A:

The solution was to never add data in the Health app on iPhone before pairing with the watch. Especially these: date of birth, weight, sex. If these are added via the watch, it all goes well. If they are already added on the iPhone, setup crashes.

Hi

It may help to restore your iPhone as new (ie to factory settings) again, choosing the option to Restore when offered the choice of Restore or Update:

Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

Hi,

Try a reset. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. You will have to re enter the Wi-Fi password in Settings > Wi-Fi.

Then try pairing. If that didn't help, restart your internet cable box and Wi-Fi router then try again.

Other things to keep in mind ..

To pair your Apple Watch, you need an iPhone 5 or later and the latest version of iOS.
On your iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth and make sure Bluetooth is on.
Make sure your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network.
Turn on your Apple Watch by pressing and holding the side button next to the Digital Crown until you see the Apple logo.
Make sure both devices are charged and keep them close together as you pair and sync them.
