Where can I download the former ftp.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates content?

Hello!

I would like to get some stuff from what used to be in ftp.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates. Apparently Apple silently removed this ftp site completely.

I found the Australian mirror for the english versions, but I would like to download other language versions of System 7, 7.5 and associated software.

Help highly appreciated!

PowerMac, Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier, on various Mac supporting Mac OS 8

I finally found a mirror that lets me browse though the directory listing. The files can then be downloaded from Apple.

This is the mirror: http://ftpmirror.your.org/pub/misc/apple/Apple_Software_Updates/

For download from Apple, just replace everyting before “Apple_Software_Updates” with “http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/” and you will get it from Apple directly, not from the mirror.

This solves my problem. The only thing I still don't get is why Apple removed the directory listings…

Thanks. With trial and error I was able to download 7.5.3 in German language now. This is it:

Note however that the main directory, which would let you see the files so you can download them, does not work as it did in the past. Now you really need to know the exact location (URL) of the files.

Also interesting: the German version only has 17 disks, the International English version 19. Why?

There are international keyboards I think through the Keyboard control panel that you can use on the English versions of the operating system.

Key Caps, the old venerable software of the Classic operating systems was a cool tool that if you hit the Option or Command key would reveal international inflections that you can combine with any letters. Option-e followed by an e or u will make an é or an ú.

Many old software direct (http) Apple download links appear to be working, including some for certain other language versions (for example, in the article Disk Copy 6.3.3: Document and Software).

Thank you, this helped to understand that at least parts of the old download location are still available.

Interesting: from this (german) site—http://www.knubbelmac.de/themen/system-7/—I was now able to download the 1st disk of the international english version of System 7.5.3, but only the first one (link). I somehow cannot get the second disk (link) and all thereafter.

Clicking on most of the links leads to http://images.apple.com/support/not_found.html.

I would be most interested to see the whole contents of http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/German/ Macintosh/System/Full_Installs/System_7.5_Version_7.5.3/, which now also redirects to not_fount.html.

What am I doing wrong here? Or, if it is not me, is there a mirror of these files and directories anywhere?

I do not know anything about that German web page, but at least some links do not appear to be correct.

The North American English version of System 7.5.3 from Apple (often referred to under earlier discussions) consists of one .smi and eighteen .part files.
