Q: Where is my photo deleted everywhere but visible on my iphone?

I confess I'm a bit confused about all the places photos live in the apple ecosystem. This story starts with the iPhone. I have a photo I took on my iPhone, and later deleted only to have it reappear. In the Photos app, I don't find the picture in Albums, but in Photos. The top of the screen says "Moments". If I click on the photo I see Share and Edit buttons.

Now, I'm thinking I've stored this image either on my MacBook Air or in my iCloud account.

Looking in the Photos app under the "Photos" tab the image is not there.

Looking in my iCloud account under Photos, the image is not there.

Where is my photo deleted everywhere but visible on my iPhone?

Macbook Air 2010.

El Capitan 10.1

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.3.2

Do you have iCloud Photo Stream or iCloud Photo Library turned on in Settings - Photos?

Have you emptied the Deleted items folder (holds deleted photos for 30 days)

    Settings > Photos & Camera

       iCloud Photo Library, off

       My Photo Steam, on

I have not deleted anything by special action on the iPhone. Where is this action found?

Try resetting the Photos App. Close Photos completely from the app switcher window by double clicking the Home button and swiping up the Photos preview pane until it disappears from the screen. Then do a forced restart. Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears.

If it does not help try a System Restore. First backup your device using iTunes. Also import your photos to your computer and copy all important data. Try restoring from backup first and testing it. If it does not help, you may have to restore as New and reconfigure from scratch as the backup could be corrupted. For this reason it is important to have your photos and data saved separately from the backup. Here are the steps for a Restore:

Ok. That's a solution that I'm going to put into my pocket. Eventually I imagine I will need to make some kind of restore from backup, but I'm not feeling like doing this before its absolutely necessary.

    Thanks anyway.

I can understand why you want to defer the restore but try the first part of the suggestion, the photos app resetting. It is quick and nothing to lose in the process. I could help...

Photos -> Albums -> you should see a recently deleted items folder
