What is the effect of adblockers on battery life?

Hi, I would like to know whether or not adblockers drain battery life on an iPhone (Safari extension) since they are another process to be executed. All these apps claim to preserve battery life, but I don't know if that's true.

Also, I used the app Weblock in order to block ads from all apps and not just Safari. Since this apps uses a dummy proxy to block ads, is it likely to cause a battery drain?

Thanks 🙂

I would expect that any app running in the background will consume battery life.

True, but they work in the background only when loading new websites. If they stop media-intensive ads and stop background trackers, I would expect a net benefit.

I have not seen any battery test results, but I've read multiple loading-time tests. Some blockers are better than others, and different sites have different amounts of junk, but generally, loading of pages is substantially faster. I would think this translates to less CPU/GPU computation, which in turn should mean better battery life?

Well, Weblock works for all of the apps and I would say it's my favorite. But for now I turned it off in order to see whether or not it consumes battery life since it uses a dummy proxy to block ads. As for Safari, my favorite adblocker would be 1Blocker and Adblock Plus (because I use it on my computer as well).
