Q: Trying to Connect 2007 Apple Cinema Display to MacBook Pro Retina
I'm trying to connect my 2015 MacBook Pro Retina to my old 2007 Apple Cinema Display. Apple recommended purchase of the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter. I've got everything connected with the exception of the addition firewire cable coming directly from monitor.
I can see the background picture of my laptop, but that it is. No functionality and not a mimic of my laptop. I am not "super tech savvy" but need help. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you have the display setup as extended desktop. With that the second display is like an extension of the first screen. For using multiple displays see:
OS X El Capitan: Connect multiple displays to your Mac
It is similar for other OSX versions
The display has FireWire ports but to use them you have to connect the FireWire plug to your Mac. Unless your Mac has two Thunderbolt ports you can't use FW via a Thunderbolt>FW adopter
