Mountain Lion Clean Install on 2006 MBP 2,2 (A1211)

I currently have a. iMac 5k and am trying to do a clean install of Mountain Lion on my old 2006 MBP 2,2 (A1211). The HDD on my MBP failed and I have no recovery data for this model. I do have a copy of Mountain Lion and plenty of usb sticks. Using the recovery utility on my iMac to create a recovery USB for my MBP does not work. The MBP does not load the recovery software, I'm assuming its because it is not supported by my MBP. I dont have the install CD anymore. Is there any way I can make a recovery USB that is compatable with my machine? Please point me to the steps I need to implement in order to revive this old MBP.

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.

If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html Another resource: International Support Phone #s.

You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store:Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.

After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.

This will be faster and less expensive than buying replacement discs for an obsolete model. Apple may not even have them in inventory.

Sorry, but there isn't. $20 for the Snow Leopard disc is your least expensive way to get that old thing going again. Not having an optical drive is not a problem. You can clone the Snow Leopard disc to a USB flash drive in order to install Snow Leopard on the computer.

Now you know why it's important to keep those discs that come with a new computer and to make backups in case they are lost or damaged. If $20 is too much to spend then give it away or put it on the shelf until you change your mind. 😀
