Q: Macbook Pro battery won't charge

Hi I recently purchased a NuPower battery from OWC. I installed it in my MBP 13". It's working fine the first few days. I performed the charge/discharge cycle, then noticed the other day when using my MBP and I connected the charger, when I clicked on the battery symbol it says "Battery: Not Charging". I turned it off, and then after some time the charger went from GREEN to AMBER light. I charged it overnight. Then the next day, same thing happen. "Battery: Not Charging", but when I turned it off, it's been 2 hours since plugged in, GREEN light in charger doesn't change to AMBER. Is it possible that the battery is defective?

    eannbelan,

    Try a SMC Reset:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

You can also try a n Apple Hardware Test: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201257

You may have the wrong battery for your device, or the cable is bad, or not connected correctly. Check the connections, by disconnecting, the re-connecting.

You can also post a screenshot of your batt/power report which may help.

Hold the OPTION key, click  the Apple logo, clickSystem Information.

Take a screenshot of that. (SHIFT COMMAND 3< or SHIFT COMMAND 4 to select the shot) and post it for others to take a look and possibly help you.

I'm sorry after the SYSTEM INFO, click on POWER. It IS possible that the battery IS defective as well. Try the afford mentioned things, then post.

You can always take it to an Apple Genius Bar for an evaluation.

I have tried all of those. And the battery's print in the back says For Macbook 13" Unibody model.

I can't provide the Batt/Power report as of the moment. As the laptop won't turn on. It turns on power adapter, but it's lagging too much,

Would it be OK to take it to Apple Service center with the NuPower battery on? I'm scared to reinstall the stock battery, because it's swollen.

From what i've found that error code seems to mean that there is a problem with that particular battery, you can try contacting OWC for another battery. This does happen.

We don't know the exact info about your MBP, (year, model, etc) so what exactly the Apple folks will do is unknown. I would take it in and see what they have to say, you already have issues, the worst that can happen with them is they refuse to touch it. Which leaves you where you are now.

    Check with OWC.

    Best of luck

Hello again, I finally charged the battery (after leaving my laptop turned off for 3 dreaded hours, it started charging). Below are the screenshots for the power ins system information

    Hi,

Glad you got it to charge, there is something in the report that raises a question.

If you look at Charge Information:

Full charge capacity should be 6195 mAh

Charge Remaining is only 5646 mAh

It is stating that it is not fully charged and it is not charging although you have the charger connected.

Just as a reference of sorts, I have a 6 year old batt in my MBP that has ~300 cycles on it and it has a full charge capacity of 6517 mph, it still achieves 6441 mAh of charge. Much less discrepancy then the new one you have, which makes me think that battery although correct for your machine may be faulty.

You can call OWC to see if they will send you another batt, as this one does not seem to want to fully charge, as well as the error code that it produced.

You may also take it to Apple with the original batt removed and without the NuPower installed, see what they will offer to do, explain that you removed the batt due to swelling so as not to have it create more damage. Your MBP is out of warranty, but is still supported.

I hope this offers you some help

    Best of luck

Thank you so much sanjampet for the help.

I have asked for a refund from OWC. Apple said they will replace the battery for about $130, but have to wait 3-4 weeks, and I don't have that time. Luckily, I found a seller in the mall.

Hope this new battery will last.
