I have upgraded my iMac to OS X 10.11.5.
Since the upgrade, I can not read my Time machine backups on a Apple Time Capsule.
When trying to upgrade some software, could not read the DMG files. The displayed Error is:
protocol wrong type for socket
I have tested several DMG files. Also old files that did work OK before.

Please reinstall the OS. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.

I finally bit the bullet and re-installed the OS X using the recovery mode. Everything now seems to work as it should.
