Why are my uploaded screenshots bigger and blurry?

When I take a screenshot of a window piece and safe it as a png or jpg file on my desktop it´s usually for uploading it to a picture site like Photobucket, Abload or Imgur. However, uploaded there the picture isn´t shown in the original size yet much bigger and totally blurry. When I try to downsize it with tools for the estimated 125x250 it was before, it staysl blurry and the sharpen function only make the picture even more ugly. Is there a trick to it?

I would be so happy to know the answer here, it´s very important for me and I don´t get it to work.

It's likely that the screen shot is 72dpi which is low resolution and little or no effort is made at the destination to upsample the image before it's displayed.

Try this. First, to take the screen shot, open Preview. In the File menu, near the bottom is Take Screen Shot with one of the choices being From Selection. That will give you a crosshair pointer which you move to the start of the screen shot, then drag it to cover the area you want to capture and let go. Your screenshot will open in Preview. Then in Tools, use Adjust Size to increase the resolution and then save it.

I did all the steps, the resolution shown in preview is 144 dpi.

Is it correct to be like this?

Since we don't know what processing, if any, goes on at the other end after uploading the image, we can only assume 144dpi isn't enough. Try upsampling the image to 300dpi without changing the dimensions and see if the results are any better when posted.

You might also check one or more of those sites to see if they have a "Help" section that could give advice about what configuration (resolution, image size, etc.) will give the best results. Preview is very flexible in making changes to your image once you know what the preferred configuration is.
