Q: Reinstalling OS / Internet Recovery mode.

Hi guys ,

Am having a problem am hoping someone can help with.

I was having problems with my Mac been slow so i backed up everything and followed some instructions on the apple website to reinstall the OS.

SO I've been pretty much following the steps to install the OS through internet recovery mode , I go through everything and the installation begins and all is good , the screen is currently sitting on Install Mac OS X ' installing Mac OS X on the disk. Time remaining : Less than a minute. It's been on less then a minute for a solid 5 hours now. The logs is still updating so I'm assuming it still working. Even tho it say less than a minute , does it usually take this long ?

I ran verify and repair disk and it came back with no problems , also booted in single user and verbose mode and everything seemed fine and I also booted up holding D and ran the hardware test , it ran for 58 minutes and said everything was fine. So I went into disk utility and erased the drive ETC and click on reinstall OSX AND am currently waiting on it to finish as i explained above.

Its a late 2011 MacBook Pro which was running El Capitan.

Thanks for any help

Internet recovery is designed to install the original OSX that the MBP came with, in your case Lion.  Did you get this dis[play when you booted into Internet recovery?

Yes I have got that page , I then got to disk utility and selected reinstall OSX and it has been installing for a few hours now.

It says there is less than a minute remaining but it's been on that page for a few hours. The log is still updating tho.

It sounds like your disk drive is dead.

Do another internet recovery but this time from Disk Utility attempt to repair your disk drive.

Report back here the results of the attempted repair.

II've done that already. Verified and repaired disk , results came back to say everything was fine.

Also booted up in with command and D to do a hardware test and that Ran for an hour and was fine.

SO after a maybe 8 hours of the update saying " less than a minute remaining " the MacBook started up in OS LION.

Played around with it for a few hours , done a few shut downs and restart to make sure it started up ok.

Everything was fine so I proceeded to download el capitan , as I had been using that with no problems since release. It downloaded fine and restarted the Mac , the installation bar moved a tiny bit and has stopped , that was an hour ago. Seen that it took lion nearly 12 hours to install and boot up , I'll give this time and see what happens.

    THanks for the replies folks
