what's up everybody? i am trying to connect my
yamaha motif es6 to work with logic pro 7.1. i set
everything up in the motif to send midi info thru usb
but i am not seeing any transmissions in logic. i
created a multi instrument in the environment and
named it motif and everything. can anyone help me
correct this problem?
To use the Motif as a Multi-Timbral Tone Generator and sync the Motif with Logic do the following. .
Put the Motif in Song/Mixing mode by pressing SONG then MIXING.
Go into the utility menu>midi>sync. Turn the CLOCK OUT to OFF.
SEQUENCER CONTROL to OFF. And MIDI SYNC to MIDI. In this same window press the OTHER button. Make sure Midi in and out is set to however it is that you are connecting to the computer. If you are using the USB cable then USB. If standard midi cable then MIDI. Then hit SEQ and in this area choose Click making sure it is set to OFF. (or it will be recorded with your music). Under QUICKSET choose RECORDING ON COMPUTER . Press store to store your settings. You need to have the audio out from the Motif Left and Right OUT going to the INs on your audio interface or if you are using the SPDIF OUT to a SPDIF IN on your audio interface. Check that your audio level is good (if using SPDIF it is set automatically).
In Logic go to FILE> SONG SETTINGS>SYNCHRONIZATION
make sure in that Clock is set to internal.
In the midi window of the sync settings set the first destination to the
midi interface you are using. If you are using USB out of the Motif,
then you will select the Motif’s first port, PORT 1.
Then on the audio track in Logic select the input for your audio (this is just above the output on the channel strip) Use whatever input the Motif’s audio out is plugged into. If using SPDIF consult the manual for your interface for which input number to use. If you are using MLAN then this is your interface.
Now when you hit record you should get Logic trigering your Motif
and the Motif sending the audio to Logic which it should record in
sync with anything else going on.
One final question, did you set up the bank messages on the Multi
instrument? Just wanted to check. Also make sure you have the USB
Driver from Yamaha.
