Magsafe 2 charger short-circuit and burns

User uploaded fileHas anyone else experienced this: the larger heats up and the cable burns down. After this it can't charge. Is this a warty repair/replace?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), Magsafe 2

The guys at the Genius Bar see this and deal with it all day every day. Physical Problems and Power Problems are what they are best at. Your appointment for an evaluation at an Apple store is free, in warranty or out. But you are likely to have to pay for a new power adapter.

The warranty for the power adapter generally follows the warranty for the computer (plus Applecare, if you decided to purchase Applecare.) If there is a bona-fide safety issue, they have some additional latitude.

The way to wrap the cord to avoid being here again, is: make a 1 to 2 inch loop of cord in the air, then start to wind onto the "ears". This reduces the stress at the one point where yours has failed, and randomizes the point of first contact with the ears, (the next most likely place for the cord to give up).
