Q: My Mac Mini will not wake my Mac Cinema HD monitor?

Hello,

I recently bought a Mac Mini, and it on frequent occasion it will not wake my 30" Cinema HD monitor from sleep. Instead, after moving the mouse or touching the keyboard, I get slightly lighter black screen. The mini is running, because if I pull out and re-plug the HDMI or Thunderbolt connection from the monitor to the computer, and then plug them back in, it returns.

My monitor needed a special Apple Dual Link DVI Adapter, which uses both an HDMI and Thunderbolt port on the Mac Mini. The monitor is Mac, and has cables which are permanent, so they can not be switched out. The adaptor is also a Mac product.

The monitor also worked fine on my previous Mac, this problem is specific to this configuration.

Thank You

Mac mini, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

I do not know what your mean by HDMI in your statement "My monitor needed a special Apple Dual Link DVI Adapter, which uses both an HDMI and Thunderbolt port on the Mac Mini.".

The dual-link adopter gets audio and vide from a computer mini displayport or Thunderbolt port and since it also needs power, the dual-link adopter includes a cable that connects to a USB port on the Mac (or a powered USB hub).

Also, see the following. It includes other connections besides HDMI

Opps I meant to say USB not HDMI, I apologize I had HD video on my brain . Yes, the adapter uses both an USB and Thunderbolt connection.

The problem is with all the right connections, my Monitor frequently is not woken up when the computer is, only when the connection is detached and reinserted. I've tried numerous configurations of the energy-saver, but nothing seems to help.
