Have to press microphone icon for Siri to work

I have enabled "Hey Siri" on my phone. Problem is, once Siri comes up, the microphone won't pick up my command unless I tap the microphone icon. Kind of defeats the purpose of hands-free/voice command if I actually have to touch the screen. Anyone know how to correct this?

How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups - Apple Support

You don't have to necesscarily complete a device restore in iTunes unless your device is stuck in recovery mode. However what Rysz said is accurate, you will want to first set up the device as a new device after erasing it through the settings. This will allow you to test the feature and then restore from a backup once you confirm the issue is resolved.

You can try resetting settings (Settings > General > Reset), but I doubt it will help and you'll just need to renter all passwords, etc.

Performing a Reset from Backup isn't really a big deal. That's, essentially, what's done with every iOS update. It's easier and faster if you do it via iTunes, just make an encrypted backup first.

If Restore from Backup doesn't help, the next step would be to restore as New. That's a lot more of a headache.
