Q: Not able to synchronize audio and MIDI
I have just managed to get 5.1 surround sound out of Logic Pro X into a Logitech Z-906 5.1 system - via a Sound Blaster X-Fi external sound card. It's great being about to pan my synths round the surround stage and the bass is really awesome. There is one little problem that I can't quite get my head around. The Roland SH-01 synth runs at 44.1Khz (fixed). The Sound Blaster X-Fi runs at 48Kz (fixed). Neither device can be changed from these settings.
I can play the synth through the speakers no problem but if I record it onto an audio track, LPX complains about the disparity between the mIDI synth and the audio - it detects the 48Khz and I get an error "Error while trying to synchronize Audio and Midi - Sample rate 48,000 recognized. Check conflict between Logic Pro X and external device." LPX won't allow me to change the sample rate from 44.1 to 48Khz, it is unavailable as an option.
So yes, I'm aware of the conflict but I can't do anything about it. Is there some workaround?

How are you recording the Roland, via it's L/R audio output into the SB X-Fi?
The problem as you know is the Roland's USB output is locking the system to 44.1 while the SB is locked to 48. One way around it is to get an external MIDI interface and use 5pin DIN old style for MIDI input/playback and record audio via the L/R analog outputs into the SB.
Another way would be to use Audio/MIDI Setup (in utilities) and create an Aggregate device.
How to combine multiple audio interfaces by creating an aggregate device - Apple Support
This will (in theory) allow OSX to re-sample one of the devices to match digital clock speeds, it's a 50/50 crap shoot whether it will work or not.
