Q: multicam clip - cam audio and desk audio - mix? how?

I have 3 clips - one cam with poor audio, another cam with fair on camera audio (including ambient audience sounds) and good quality audio direct from the desk.

I create a multicam clip and then want to mix the last two audio sources.

I can't see how to do that.

Help!

Thanks in anticipation.

Edit the multicam clip into a project. Select the first shot you want. Use the expand audio components function. In the inspector in Channel Configurations set the channels you want. Assuming you want to cut the picture to the audio, the simplest way is to detach the audio and then cut the vision in the angle viewer.

I don't think there is any need to detach the audio. If you select the audio components in the inspector and then just cut the video, it will work fine.

IT works better. Or you can make a long split edit of the first cut. The problem born is FCP always cuts the audio, which makes mixing and audio effects a nightmare.

Aha - now I can see both audio waveforms in the timeline and can adjust the relative volumes.

Almost there but now a problem - the two audio clips aren't quite in synch.

I suppose I can go back to editing the video and manually synching the desk audio but that seems silly (but I've been doing it so long)

    What am I doing wrong?

There must be a smarter way.

I don't know why they are not in sync.

You could open the multicam clip in the angle editor and try to sync there - choose an appropriate angle as the monitoring angle, then use "Sync to monitoring angle". Maybe it will work, maybe not - after all, they should be in sync from the beginning, i.e., the creation of the multicam clip. Still, it is not hard to try.

Thanks for the suggestion I will try that and report back. Bit of a deadline today so am manually synching right now.
