Q: Magic mouse buttons not clicking properly all the time

My apple Magic Mouse buttons don't appear to work correctly all of the time.  Sometimes (but not always), to get the left or right click to work correctly, I find that I have to click on the extreme edge of the magic mouse (virtually wrapping my fingers over the edge of the mouse), not in the normal expected left or right corners of the mouse.

But this only appears to be an issue intermittently (and with certain programs - other programs it works fine); often my mouse works normally, as expected.

I usually use rechargeable batteries; could a low charge in these batteries contribute to or cause these issues?

I don't want to replace this mouse if I don't have to.

There are two parts to this question.

You don't say which programs are causing your troubles.   Please tell us.

Have you tried using your mouse on another device ... or used someone else's mouse on your machine?.

Re-chargeable batteries are fine usually but after several recharges they gradually  begin to deteriorate.   Depends on the quality of them.  A low charge could have an effect.  See my user tip on Batteries.

    HI Seventy One,

Although I haven't used this mouse on other computers, I've used a couple of other mice (older wired apple mouse & two blue tooth mighty mouse) on this computer, and none of these mice display the same issues (the left click button not working correctly).

The interesting thing is that the fault does appear to be progressive; after I've used a range of other mice, I've gone back to my original Magic Mouse, and at first it's operated as expected, but gradually it's lost the correct location of the left click (i.e. having to push further towards the left edge of the mouse for a left click to register correctly).

The main program that I'm having this issue with is Adobe Premiere Pro

Thanks for the tips on batteries, I'll read that now.

    Cheers

    Andrew
