Safari says I have a trojan virus (e.tre456_worm_osx). A solution given at one point was to install and run Malware bytes Anti-Malware program, but my Mac desktop only runs OS10.6.8, and the mal-ware program does not support OS10.6.8. Any solutions?

Safari has no ability to detect malware. What you're looking at is web page scam. Clear Safari History and Website Data and/or restart Safari while you hold down the Shift key.

My wife was surfing a shopping web-site when the trojan virus (e.tre456_worm_osx) message appeared. We were immediately suspicious. We chose NOT to click on the error message. Instead we closed Safari browser. We then restarted macbook. Thankfully her laptop seems to be working fine
