Q: Is there an iPad app that will insert passwords in Standalone apps automatically?

im not aware of any apps for iPad that automatically inset passwords.. Even 1Password that is great on a Mac will not insert a password in a browiser unless you start with 1P, and nothing for apps like Amazon or banking. are there any?

iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iOS 8.1.2

    No. iOS apps are "sandboxed" which means, for security, they are isolated from one another. What you're asking for wouldn't be possible at this time.

    However, no app can insert passwords into another app as no app has access to another apps sandbox. iOS is specifically designed so 3rd party apps cannot interact like that or alter each other. An app developer can code their app to allow the use of your fingerprint as a proxy for the app's own internally stored password. So for example, Fidelity's app requires you to sign in with your password, but after that you can enable the ability to use your fingerprint to open the app (your fingerprint serves as a proxy for the password now stored in the app itself).

    Thank you both for answering my question... The finger print is great on the few that have it. So cumbersome as is. Frustrating. I certainly have a love-hate relationship with the iPad, but usually when I need a password and the app doesn't keep me signed in, I just skip that task or go to my Mac.

    More and more banking and financial apps are offering TouchID, thankfully. But, yes, the balance between security and convenience is a tricky one. The results are rarely completely satisfactory.
