We are not using the same Apple ID and the album is being shared with quite a few people. When I click on edit in iCloud photo sharing and then click on delete the response is Do I want to unsubscribe? I want to keep receiving the photos but the album now has hundreds of photos in it.
Where do the photos show up? On an iPhone the photos should be in the Photos App.
I don't know how you are receiving these photos? Perhaps you have iCloud Photo Sharing enabled.
If so, it is all or nothing, if you want to keep receiving the photos there is no way to hand pick the ones you want individually, sorry.
Maybe this will help: iCloud Photo Sharing - Apple Support
If you're the owner of a shared album, you can delete any photos, videos, or comments from anyone. Subscribers can delete anything that they personally added. Anything you delete is automatically deleted from the album on all your devices and the devices of subscribers.
Any photos you saved from the shared album to another location, such as the Photos tab, won't delete from that location.
