Allow calls on other devices "even when your iPhone is not nearby"

iPhone 6Plus and iPad Pro - So I had to play with the phone and iPad buttons and reboot the iPad to finally get the iPad to make a FaceTime audio call over wifi. Sound quality is great and functionality is good both making and receiving a FaceTime audio call on the iPad. The problem I kept having was the iPad would revert back to using the iPhone to make the call instead of actually over wifi. Took me about 6 attempts to get it to work. All 6 times I was prompted to enter a code from one device to the other. So after a few days I attempt to initiate a call using the iPad and it dials using iPhone! I look on the phones setting and sure enough it's reverted back again. I toggled the allow calls on other devices button and allow calls on iPad and the code window popped up again. I tried a cal on the iPad and it dialed using my phone. I rebooted the iPad and tried again and it used wifi. Doesn't seem very robust to say the least. Anyone find a trick to get this to work a little more reliably?

Turn iPhone to Airplane mode - then make a call from FT on iPad

OR

Disconnect Continuity

Use Continuity to connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac - Apple Support

OK, well I tried your first suggestion. So far so good. Wasn't sure how to disconnect Continuity unless you mean simply turning off calls on other devices on iPhone. I'll see how it goes in a few days. Thanks

Wait... hold up...

So I have an iPhone 6 and an iPad Mini 3 LTE. I want to make a call on my iPad, so that means I have to disable my iPhone? That doesn't sound right. It was my understanding that my iPad would work as a cell phone once I had everything enabled. Here is what I did:

I went into Phone on my iPhone, and enabled "Calls on Other Devices." Once that was enabled, I hit "Add Wifi Calling for Other Devices." It then told me Wifi Calling is now available for other devices using my iCloud account. I enabled the iPad on the "Allow Calls On" list. Meanwhile, on my iPad, a notification popped up asking if I wanted to turn on Wifi Calling, and it said "You can use your phone number to make and receive calls directly on this iPad using Wifi or cellular data." I hit "Turn On" and then it asks me to upgrade to Wifi Calling. I hit "Enable." It said "enter this 6 digit code on your iPhone." I do that, and then on my iPad it warned that my location will be used for emergency calls.

And yet, after all that, it still wont just make the call. It still wants to be on Wifi and route the call through my iPhone. BTW, the iPad and iPhone aren't on Wifi during all this. Also, I am on latest iOS version and my provider for both iPad and iPhone is AT&T.

My statement "Wasn't sure how to disconnect Continuity unless you mean simply turning off calls on other devices on iPhone" was in reference to turning off calls on other devices and then turning back on again. Essentially toggling off then on to force my iPad to use WiFi and not iPhone when making a call using iPad.

Well, now I've encountered another problem. This is my wife's iPhone 6 and iPad 3rd generation. (Both updated to ios 9.3.2) Her phone displays "Allow other devices signed into your iCloud account to make and receive calls using your carrier account even when your iPhone is not nearby". And her iPad is toggled on. On her iPad, under (Calls from iPhone) it reads "Use your iPhone cellular account to make and receive calls when your iPhone is nearby and on Wi-Fi". I never get a pop-up displaying a six-digit code nor a window to enter it into. I've reset network connections, toggled Airplane Mode and rebooted both devices many times. Anyone using Wi-Fi calling on a 3rd generation iPad? (and it not needing the phone to make the call)

Wi-Fi calling still working great on my iPad Pro.

Backup to iTunes

Then restore as NEW using iTunes

Do not restore the backup

See if the problem resolves

If it does - restore backup - if the problem returns - then chances are your content is corrupted somehow
