Q: music not showing on my phone

Iphone 6, since the latest update there seems to be no way to access my music on the phone, have never had a problem before.

When I click "my music" a screen shows saying "don't miss a beat ! find your favorites in itunes, then come back and enjoy them here". All my musis shows in itunes, I tried resyncing with no luck, this is getting beyond annoying here. I heard of that bug that deletes music from computers, don't think its that cause music is fine on my computer ,,, And like I said, this happened randomly right after the latest update.

Almost looks like a welcome screen but no way to get out of it, anyone know what might be going on here ? Just noticed, look in the "about/general" section of the phone and number of songs is 0, so somehow they apparently got deleted from the phone, yet they are all showing in itunes. Resyncing doesn't get them on the phone, what to do here ?

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.3.2

    Hi JesseJames99,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I'm sorry to hear that you are having these issues with your iPhone after a recent update. If your music isn't appearing as expected, you may want to see if you have set up iCloud Music Library (part of Apple Music & iTunes Match), and if it is correctly configured on your iPhone. You may find the information and steps outlined in the following articles helpful:

Hi and thanks for the reply.

I don't want or need to access my music from icloud, and I never have had to in the years I have used iphones, never. It is simply music that is on the phones hard memory. I am constantly being bugged into upgrading my storage with dyer warnings it is almost full but am not inclined to do so.

So are you saying with the latest update it is now mandatory to have an upgraded [paid] cloud service to even listen to music on the phone ?

This has been reporting by others and the following seems to work:

    1. Switch your phone off then on again

    2. Select Airplane Mode then disable it

    3. Access the App Store and try and update one of your apps that needs updating (you should have a few by now)

NOTE: You will be prompted to accept NEW T&C's before this will work. You must accept them before you can sync.

I have an iphone 6. . On the phone i had about 16GB of music. It was there a week ago, I am sure, but yesterday, its all gone. Just gone. I have not synced it. I have not even plugged the phone into a computer to charge.

Its been nagging me to update for about 2 weeks, but i just kept clicking ignore. I finally updated once i noticed my music missing. Music is still missing.

I am not really upset, i can re-sync it via Itunes, but seriously how does 16gb of music just disappear?

Unrelated? Maybe but OneDrive has decided it needs to re-upload all my pictures from the camera roll as well.

I only use Plex and Amazon Music besides the Built in Apple Music App. Neither is capable of deleting local files I don't think.

    *********************************************************

Ok, so yesterday there was NO music in there, now I have the "Free" U2 album. Something is not right here.

Opened ITunes on my Itunes computer, it showed all the audio that "should" be on my computer, 16+GB. All the Albums to sync were still checked. Plugged in my iphone, and instantly all audio was gone. I hit the Sync button, and now it is copying back 2200 songs.

Nothing lost but time, but my iphone should not be deleting songs for no apparent reason.

I DO NOT use Apple music.  I have not signed up for a free trial.  I have not logged into the phone with a different AppleID, or anything.  On the phone, one day there was 16gb of music, the next day no music, and the day after that a U2 album.

    Something is really not right.

Kinda glad I'm not the only one with this problem, but certainly not happy anyone is experiencing this.

So pointless and random, for years, there is music at the touch of a button, and now its like pulling teeth trying to get it back. Tempting to think that apple perhaps doesn't want people using their own music and would much rather they buy it from them, but of course there is no actual evidence that I know of to support this thought.

I am seriously inconvenienced by this, had to call my old plug in mp3 player back into service this weekend to have music at my camper, and still no solution in sight. This has the potential to turn into a deal breaker for me if this situation is not rectified.

Once again, all my music is showing in itunes, not a single song showing on my phone. Resyncing does no good, am not even sure if its possible to try to reload it with music since as I just said, the music is there in itunes.

I likewise usually resist the plague of warnings to update for weeks and sometimes months, now I can see why. Never know what kind of ratty bs they have tucked into them.

Thanks B, here is a rundown what happened.

Called tech support, after walking through a few common sense steps he couldn't figure out why my music wasn't showing and came to the conclusion that somehow the latest update was corrupted, so he had me backup and restore. Took quite a while, when it was done still no music was showing. I was able though to start dragging my songs back in and I eventually reloaded the phone with music and now its showing and accessible, not sure if I could have just done that in the first place without the restore.

Never did find out the reason why the music was deleted in the first place but anyhow, got the music back after much ado.
