Q: Apple TV will not accept my Apple ID password

I have Gen 4.  Last week, an update came through that crashed my ATV.  Apple told me reset to factory settings through iTunes on my computer.  I did that and the ATV is operating again.  However, I can't buy anything to watch in TV or Movies.  My ID and password are rejected again and again.  I taken care to make sure I'm inputting it correctly.  I also can't get any Apps downloaded from the App store to work either.  Any suggestions on how to get ATV to accept my ID/password?  Thanks.

iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, Late 2015), OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

Have you enabled 2-step verification or 2-factor authentication for your Apple ID? If so, you could try disabling them by logging from another device or computer.

Were you able to complete setup after restoring ATV using iTunes, or are you stuck in setup?

You say downloaded apps don't work. Were you actually able to download some apps?

If setup was successful and apps downloaded, then it sounds like you have no internet connection at the moment. You need to check for network issues as described here Get help with Wi-Fi networks on your Apple TV - Apple Support. Also, try using the DNS from your internet provider. Check that your region is correctly set for both ATV and iTunes.

Thank you for your reply.  Per your questions...

    2-step verification - don't have this.

Were you able to complete setup after restoring ATV using iTunes, or are you stuck in setup? -- Yes.

You say downloaded apps don't work. Were you actually able to download some apps?  -- I downloaded the app for Showtime and it installed correctly.  However, when I got to subscribe, ATV won't accept my password.    I also cannot buy a movie or TV show in the ATV menu, won't accept my password.  I checked to make sure that my password was okay, but logging into iCloud via Safari, no problem.

If setup was successful and apps downloaded, then it sounds like you have no internet connection at the moment. -- No internet issues.  I'm not having this issues on my iMac, iPad or iPhone.  You need to check for network issues as described here Get help with Wi-Fi networks on your Apple TV - Apple Support. Also, try using the DNS from your internet provider. -- I'm not sure what I'm being asked to do.

So, you completed setup and installed an app. That means you successfully entered your Apple ID and password, because you cannot access  the app store without that.

Regarding DNS, is ATV network configured to get IP and DNS automatically?

Is the router configured to get DNS from the Internet Provider?

Or are you using OpenDNS, Google, or some other DNS service?

Are you using any kind of VPN, or unblocker?

Also, is the Region correctly set both in the General ATV settings, and in the iTunes settings?
