Continual Drop Out Streaming Music to ATV4

I have an ATV4 in a sight line to the router and iMac and it's the only product out of three to continually drop out when streaming iTunes music! The others are an old Airport Express and ATV3 (which is in a room miles away!). It's actually getting worse. It was patchy, settling down occasionally when I bought it but now it doesn't retain connection for more than 5 mins at a time. Yes I've tried all the resets, reboots, split networks etc. It's the second ATV4 I've had the first had faulty bluetooth. Any suggestions? Thanks

Have you tried setting the router WiFi encryption to WPA2-AES (CCMP) only? ATV 4 seems to handle mixed AES/TKIP badly.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.

You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.

Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.

There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

As the only thing that has changed is the introduction of the new ATV4, I'm assuming that it's the problem. It's even in the same location as the ATV2 it replaced. As I stated I have changed and split channels etc, with no effect. I've tried Diana's suggestions and it seems stable at the moment. Cheers

Good. So you were using the mixed AES/TKIP mode, and you changed it, correct? The routers default to that mode to "support older devices", but I suspect that requirement is completely OBE now, and the router makers are just slow to catch up. Not sure why it confuses ATV 4, but it seems to.

Yeah. I've a Netgear D6300 which has the latest s/w update. It is a bit old now but seems to cut through and I've never had any probs with it. Thanks again.
