Try force restarting your watch: press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for around 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo, then release them and wait for the watch to restart.
If your watch remains unresponsive, next try the following steps:
On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Accessibility > VoiceOver > if it is turned on, turn off VoiceOver.

This week I updated to 2.2.1 and I have experienced my 1st 2 blank screens. One occurred while I was wearing the watch. The other apparently occurred while charging. When I removed the watch from the charger it was unresponsive and only displayed a blank screen.
