I recently purchased an iphone 6 plus on ebay not realizing it was iCloud locked. Is there anything I can do to remove it?

No. There's no way to remove it without their Apple ID and password. Return it for a refund. If the seller did not disclose that it was iCloud Activation Locked, and refuses to give you your money back, file a claim with eBay.
