I have an older macbook pro so I used the holding option while turning the computer on method, but when it turns on I only get the macintosh HD option and not the recocer HD option, I have no idea what to do. How do I fix this?

If you have Snow Leopard (10.6.8) as your signature indicates, then that version of OS X does not include a Recovery Partition.

If you have upgraded to Lion (10.7), which happens to be this forum, then you should have a recovery partition.

However, if you do have Lion 10.7, but you built this boot disk by cloning it from another disk with Lion 10.7 on it, the clone software is unlikely to copy over the Recovery Partition.

If you are using Lion, then if you re-install Lion over top of your existing Lion installation, then it should create new Recovery Partition.
