Q: Moving from employer iPad to personal (do I need to change ID?)

I'm currently using a work-issued iPad with an apple ID linked to my work email. I'm changing jobs and will be returning the ipad, and have bought a new one for my future personal use.

How can I proactively manage the transition? I have app purchases on the work iPad that I've made myself, and that I'd like to transfer to the new device.

Would it be possible to:

1) Change the email address associated with my apple ID to my personal email, then

2) Log in to the new personal device using that same apple ID

3) Transfer my own purchases

4) Keep using it that way, now free of ties to my old workplace?

Or is the apple ID I created for work going to be permanently linked to them even if I change the email address?

Not trying to keep anything that they bought for me, just my own stuff!

Changing the e-mail address on the AppleID should work sufficiently, but I cannot stress the following enough:

MAKE SURE Find my Device is turned off on EVERY device logged in with the work AppleID before you make that change.  I would log out of iCloud entirely after disabling Find my Device on those devices, and ONLY THEN change the primary Email address to your personal one.  This will save you a lot of headaches

Apps are owned by the apple id.  Apps cannot be transferred between apple ids.  If the apps on the apple id are both paid for company apps and personally bought apps, you will have to sort this out with your company. Someone will have to suffer a loss.  Does the company use on mdm?  This may change the situation.

What is your old work placing going to think? Maybe they bought some apps for you to use and they may want them back.  Hence they will want to retain the apple id.  You can logon to the apple id and change associated credit cards and address info.

Apple does not provide a means of transferring apps from one apple id to another.
