When I un pack the drive as told to do by double clicking on the Icon it says it does recognise the operating system. I went to Toshiba website and downloaded the update needed, says in was written in May 2016. When you double click on it to automatically goes to update dated 2013. Double click on it and it says "doesn't recognise operating system"

I have the orange Icon on my desktop and when I double click on it to open it I have no option but to download the driver, it doesn't let me go any further

FWIW, I took a brief look at Toshiba's site and Walmart's site and your drive is supposed to come pre-formatted for Macs. However, it comes with two programs…

Pogoplug Software (preloaded on drive)

HDD Password Tool (preloaded on drive)

neither of which are likely to be El Capitan compatible nor are they needed. There is an updated password tool for OSX that is supposed to be El Capitan compatible.

I would contact Toshiba http://support.toshiba.com/contact
