Q: Maildelivery error message for specific contact when sent from Macbook, NOT when sending from iPhone.

Hi! When sending mail to a specific contact from my Macbook Mail application, I started receiving Maildelivery error messages a few weeks ago, and have meanwhile discovered that the mail goes through without problem when sending it from the iPhone.  My Macbook Pro runs OSX El Capitan 10.11.5.

The error message I receive is:

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its

recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

name@domain

    retry timeout exceeded

Reporting-MTA: dns; vie01a-pqmta-at02.mx.upcmail.net

Action: failed

Final-Recipient: rfc822;name@domain

Status: 5.0.0

The error only occurs when the message is sent from Mail on Macbook, NOT when sending from iPhone. And only to this one contact of mine. Any ideas? Help would be appreciated since I need to send important mails very frequently. One more thing:  this happens when sending from mac.com account as well as from gmail.com account, but both from Mail on Macbook.

Thanks, but this does not help.  I have been there, checked out all the Apple Support offered.  My problem is not a general "cannot send mail" problem - it only concerns one recipient.  With this specific e-mail addressee mail only goes through when sent from iPhone ( which is why I asked her to stop the involvement of the IT people at her end, since I had assumed I was blacklisted there for some reason).

I also tried another option - signed in as Guest on my Macbook and installed the gmail account in Mail - could send it from the Guest profile! But then again not when logged in as myself. Which is why I assume there is one file in my User Mail library that prevents this email from going through to one specific (of many) recipients.

I tried by restoring the Mail library from Time Machine (from the time before this problem started), but this did not solve the problem either.

    HI,

Mail typically tries to complete an email address after you or I have typed a few letters. I wonder if Mail's own address book has some sort of malformed or otherwise wrong email address for this particular friend or contact. That might explain why it worked from Guest. I would take a look in your Sent mailbox to see if there is anything wrong with the outgoing email address.

No, I have checked the address also whether quoted correctly in the Maildelivery return message - it is correct there.  We even tried it by me replying to one of my friend's messages - also no luck.
