Q: Sync Photos

Lost now a few hours to figure out on how to import photos into my PC and yet I have reached no where.

My iPhone is plugged with an USB and successfully synced through iTunes.

Therefore I open iTunes, on the left menu I select Photos. Check Sync Photos and I can see it processes the sync.

Then I open my Picture library directory and find another directory named iPod Photo Cache. I guess here's where all pics have been synced but guess what. There are endless sub-directories with files types .ithmb.

How can I see the photos?

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.2.1

Thanks. I have already landed on that page earlier. But I wanted to understand if there was a different solution. For many reasons I cannot utilize a MAC and if these are the restrictions it is then very discouraging to buy again an iPhone.

The iPod Photo Cache is a cache of the thumbnails that are synced to the device. It is expected to be there and can be ignored. Your photos on the computer remain where they were, and whatever folders you selected to sync to the device will have been added to it. Annoyingly iTunes for Windows cannot copy off photos taken on the device automatically. You can use Windows Explorer to copy off the images. You can also use the iCloud for Windows control panel to download your photos from your photo stream but it is worth noting that videos may still need to be extracted manually.

Thanks for the input. So let me understand if I understood. The only way I can have the photos and videos on my machine is to open the mobile's folder and manually copy these and paste. Am I correct? Therefore what you say is there is no automated sync between iTunes and my machine to keep similar style and folders organized same as in iPhone. Right?

There is an automatic method to sync a set of folders of photos on your computer to the device.

There isn't an automatic method to sync the camera roll on the device to your computer.

In the world of iTunes sync is mostly a computer to device transfer, with some exceptions for purchased media moving in the other direction. Mac users get something closer if they use the iCloud Photo library, and the Mac can be set up to automatically import images into Photos or iPhotos.
