I have a file in a folder on my desktop called may27citadel.MOV. The search function can't find it. It is a real file and it's pretty big. The search function seems to find other files. If I limit my query to just 'may27' I can find three files called may27.jpg, but not my movie.

I can't edit my posts for some reason, so here's more info: I created 3 files of different types with the same name and put them on the desktop. The finder found 3 of the 4. See screenshot.
Thanks for your reply but I haven't lost anything. The file I'm looking for is right on my desktop but neither the Finder nor Spotlight can find it.
When you type the "may27" text into Find are you clicking the pop up "Name matches: may27"? If not, try that.
what happens if you just type in may27?
oops. I'm too slow.
It finds all docs which include the text 'may27' but does not find a file called 'may27citadel.mov'
Try rebuilding the Spotlight Index.
Did you try my suggestion?
Actually I'm a little embarrassed. I opened Spotlight as you suggested and found that I had exluded movies from search results. Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. I woudnt have thought of it if you hadn't suggested I open Spotlight.
