Q: Large files from HDTracks no longer match on import.

New large file songs/albums from HDTracks used to match but new additions no longer do. Itunes will import them and play them, but won't Match them. I know files over 200 MB won't be uploaded to iCloud, but they used to Match to the iTunes versions.

The albums consisting of large M4a song files used to match when imported, and those previously matched do remain matched, but new albums for the last 2-3 months no longer match when imported. "Update iCloud Music Library" seems to have no impact on this.

The only work around I've found is a pain - I have to rip the HD album to a CD, then import that CD, which creates duplicates that so successfully Match. I presume it is because the file size is now below 200 MB. So, while that gets the songs Matched and available on my other devices, I then have two versions of each song on my music computer, an HD quality one and a CD quality one, which makes it a pain to listen to the HD tracks and manage the music.

Why the change? Is there a fix for this?

Thanks.

    Hi,

Has there been a change? I can't say yes or no because I converted the tracks using XLD to AAC prior to adding to iTunes. I use two libraries, one for Match that i use for my iPod/ iPad, the other for my HD and ALAC music that I play through my hi-fi.

I think you answered this in your post in 2013 Re: Why are 88kHz/24bit alac files coming up ineligible in Match?

    Thanks Jim,

Yes, I did, didn't I!? I'd totally forgotten all that -  and I had done the research!

And I appreciate the good library insight. How do you manage the two libraries? Just have the one with HD on a machine with iTunes you don't sync with any phones/pads and not synced with the iCloud/Match?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

My iTunes Match library is maintained on my main computer. This includes all my music at 256 or 320 Kbps and i use this to sync with my iPad and iPod classic. I have my second library with iCloud music library turned off on an external drive and is usually connected to my other computer. This library includes mainly CDs ripped as ALAC with HD digital download s from various sources including HD Tracks but also iTunes and Amazon MP3/ AAC downloads which I don't have the CDs.

The downside is that you have to maintain two libraries and this means you have separate play counts, ratings, playlists etc. This arrangement works for me.
