Q: Membership Cards In Canada?

Apple Pay only arrived in Canada this morning so I have had a long time to improvise. Up until today, I have been using an App called "KeyRing" which has allowed me to add in all my membership cards from the business I use.

For example, my local grocery store has cards that when scanned, give me discounts. My Shoppers Drug Mart card gives me points that I can later redeem for whatever. Mountain Equipment Co-op requires a membership card to purchase things. The list goes on.

Up until now I have used KeyRing to store all my cards. When I go to a store that accepts these cards, I simply bring the barcode up on the screen within the App and they scan it.

Today, after successfully adding my debit card to Apple Wallet, I tried to then add in all my membership cards. Nothing seems to work.

Is this even possible with Apple Pay, or am I stuck using KeyRing and Wallet?

    Hi,

    Your debit card must be associated with one of the following;

    Banks in Canada

    • American Express
    • ATB (MasterCard credit cards)
    • Bank of Montreal (Interac debit cards, MasterCard credit cards)
    • Canadian Tire (MasterCard credit cards)
    • CIBC (Interac debit cards, MasterCard and Visa credit cards)
    • RBC—Royal Bank of Canada (Interac debit cards, MasterCard and Visa credit cards)
    • Scotiabank (American Express and Visa credit cards, Interac debit cards)
    • TD (Interac debit cards, Visa credit cards)

It's possible the KeyRing app is causing a conflict.

    Hi Carolyn,

I have already added the debit card without issue. I am trying to add the membership cards from other businesses.

The KeyRing app isn't causing any conflict. In fact it is the only app that seems to work with these types of cards. To be clear, the cards I'm trying to add are membership cards. For example, when I go to the grocery store, they say, "Membership number?"

If I use KeyRing and show the barcode, they can scan it with the laser gun. *boop* I save myself $5.00. I have a lot of cards like this, but Apple Wallet doesn't seem to allow me to add them. This unfortunately really limits the ability to use the app, and kinda puts me back where I started. Pulling out my phone and my debit card is the exact same time, and with TD's new tap system, it is just as, if not faster.

Were I able to add all my cards into Apple Wallet, and eliminate KeyRing, it would go a long way to making it useful.

Also, the Key Ring app was created by a third party developer, not Apple. You can contact them for help here > https://keyringapp.com/contact/support

Thanks Carolyn, but I don't think we are on the same page here. I'll wait and see if anyone else has any ideas.

    Hi

It is possible to add coupons, reward cards, membership cards, etc to Wallet when the issuing merchant supports Wallet passes.

Passes can be added to Wallet in various ways including via Wallet-enabled apps and by tapping a Wallet notification if you are prompted to add a pass after paying with Apple Pay at a supported merchant.

If you would like any particular merchant to consider supporting Wallet passes, you may wish to suggest it to them directly.

To view apps that currently support Wallet, follow this link:
