Afraid not. It measures your heart rate which is available on the screen for a minute or so but you will have to tap the screen for another reading.
Your heart rate. What it means, and where on Apple Watch you’ll find it.

Apple Watch measures your heart rate:
- Regularly throughout the day when you are still (akin to a resting heart rate).
- Continuously during workouts that are recorded via the Workout app:
- The Workout app can display heart rate (one of several options) as the main data when viewing progress during a workout.
- When recording a workout, the Workout app is shown automatically upon raising your wrist.
- More information: Use the Workout app on your Apple Watch - Apple Support
All heart rate measurements (recorded during general daily wear and workouts) are shared to the Health app on iPhone, where they are summarised in a chart. All individual data points can also be viewed:
- On your iPhone, in the Health app, go to: Health Data tab > Vitals > Heart Rate (tap on Show all Data to see all data points).
You may find the following third-party app of interest:
- HeartWatch. View & get notified about heart rate data captured on your watch.
- " accesses your heart rate & workout readings created by your Apple Watch and unlocks the power of this information in a simple, intuitive way. "
- " The HeartWatch [watch face] complication is the most convenient way to launch the watch app and also provides useful information. "
