Canon Pixma MP520 and El Capitan

I just upgraded to Mac OS El Capitan (10.11.5) on my iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010) but am now having trouble printing to my Canon Pixma MP520.

I tried to research possible solutions including deleting CUPS files from the Library/Printers/Canon folder. And re-installing drivers, etc. I've deleted and re-added the printer. All to no avail.

Any thoughts?

Here is the error message I receive:

Printer & scanner software available for download for your Mac

Gutenprint Supported Printers

Printers not behaving? Reset them and start from scratch | MacIssues

OS X Mavericks- Set up a printer

I would visit Canon's support site to look for a current driver for your model. If they no longer support it then check the list of Gutenprint drivers. If you don't find one then you will need to get a new printer.

I tried all that, but finally ended up downloading a driver for 10.8 from this site below and re-installed that. It required me to download some "tools" from Apple, but now all seems to be working OK. Nothing else worked, but I'm happy it's up and running again.
